CONNIE'S CORNER: REACHING OUT

I did most of my growing up in Pennsylvania. There my parents ran a Rehab for drug addicts and alcoholics for part of my childhood and many friendships developed from the work they did. It was not unusual for us to celebrate Thanksgiving, Easter, or a Sunday dinner with perfect strangers...

KAYLIN'S MONTHLY FIT TIP

Focus on Flexibility: Do you or your co-workers complain of low back pain? Often, we fail to pay attention to how flexible (or inflexible) our muscles have become. Many times low back pain can be alleviated by simply stretching the hamstrings, and it is imperative that we stretch at least three times a week and improve our flexibility, especially as we age. Try this beginning yoga pose, The Downward Dog, to stretch your hamstrings, shoulders, calves, and back. It's a great stretch that can be done during breaks, lunch, or at the work station during slow times. Hold the pose for 15-20 seconds and breathe deeply throughout the exercise.  Email Kaylin for more ideas on how to keep your muscles limber!

SOUND ASLEEP

Are you and your co-workers getting the right amount of sleep to be at their best during the work day? According to the National Center for Sleep Disorders Research at the National Institutes of Health, about 30-40% of adults say they have some symptoms of insomnia within a given year, and about 10-15 percent of adults say they have chronic insomnia. Although the cause of insomnia varies from person to person, there are some universal tips to get your best nights sleep. Read them here!

BURNING QUESTION:
HERE'S THE ANSWER!

This section answers your often-asked, health-related questions. If you have a question that you would like us to answer, please send us an email and we will try to highlight it in our next newsletter.

Question:

I want to build muscle mass, so I am starting a new workout routine. Is it beneficial to add more protein to my diet, and if so, how much?

Answer:

The answer to this commonly asked question depends on the type, amount, and intensity of the workout. The amount of protein you should eat daily also correlates to your body weight.
