CONNIE'S CORNER: SKIN CANCER

As a nurse, I have seen the serious effects the sun can have on our skin, but have prided myself in the last few years in protecting my skin from sunburn. Unfortunately, what I have learned later in my adulthood did not change that fact that my sun exposure as a younger person may have caused harm to my skin. As I write this article i am recovering from two skin biopsies, and awaiting the results. Continue reading Connie's Corner here.

WELCOME, KAYLIN!

We are happy to introduce On-Site Health Solutions' newest employee: Kaylin Edgerton. Kaylin, a recent Purdue graduate, comes to us from LifePlex/Fitness Forum where she worked as a Personal Trainer.  Kaylin will be working to promote fitness and provide Spanish translations for our clients.

KAYLIN'S MONTHLY FIT TIP

With summer well underway, there is no better time than now to get your mid-section swimsuit ready! Try using a small Pilates ball for your next core workout. While doing crunches, place the ball under the small of your back. This will enable you to engage your abdominals more while straining your back and neck much less. Email Kaylin for more ideas.

SUMMER SUN SAFETY

With summer at its peak, there is no better time than now to become educated about the dangers of sun exposure and how to protect you and your family. While summer provides many opportunities for fun outdoor activities and events, it is also the time during which you are the most susceptible to sun damage, including skin cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, with more than one million cases of skin cancer diagnosed annually. BOOK OF THE MONTH

To help you on the road to good health, On-Site Health Solutions will recommend a new book in every newsletter. If you've read a book that you think can provide our readers with good health information, please let us know.

On any given day,  1 out of 4 Americans opts for a quick and cheap meal at a fast-food restaurant without giving either its nutritional shortcomings a second thought.  Fast food is so popular that it now seems as American, and harmless, as apple pie.

For a new perspective on the American diet, read:
