CONNIE'S CORNER: TEACH YOUR CHILD WELL

As summer ends and the rush of fall is upon us, I take this time to reflect on the parental responsibilities that I have in store throughout the new school year.

The morning rituals of waking up, already behind, trying to pack lunches, get the kids out the door with a full belly and brushed teeth, all while managing to get yourself ready for your day, is something that could send even the most organized family into a tizzy.  How do we manage it all?  How do we make sure that while we’re busy rushing around we still maintain a balance between staying healthy and meeting all the demands that the school year has to offer?  How do we get food on the table at the end of a hectic day?

KAYLIN'S MONTHLY FIT TIP

An Ideal Balance: Our balance and agility tend to decrease as we age. However, this is not a "natural" occurrence. If you work to improve your balance you will decrease the odds of falls and injuries. Try this: while standing (at your work station, while brushing your teeth, etc) lift one foot and try to keep it off the ground for 10 seconds, then switch feet. Keep challenging yourself to work up to 30 seconds on each foot. Remember: if you don't use it, you lose it!  Email Kaylin for more ideas on how to stay fit and balanced!

WELLNESS TAX CREDIT

Qualifying small businesses can now receive a tax credit for implementing a qualifying wellness program. Once a wellness program is certified, the employer is entitled to a credit of 50 percent of the costs incurred for providing a qualified wellness program. .

BOOK OF THE MONTH

To help you on the road to good health, On-Site Health Solutions will recommend a new book in every newsletter. If you've read a book that you think can provide our readers with good health information, please let us know.

This is a great resource for those of you who would like to research how implementing an Employee Wellness Program will benefit your company. The author explains why it makes good financial sense for companies to create employee wellness programs, and then proceeds to provide those charged with creating the program the tools to measure the need. Health screening programs, including screening for hypertension, glaucoma, sickel cell anemia, colon cancer, cervical cancer, diabetes, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and hearing loss are each discussed in detail.
